Mitch Robbins (Billy Crystal) is a radio ad salesman who, with his buddies Phil (Daniel Stern) and Ed (Bruno Kirby), makes an annual holiday out of some adventurous pursuit. This year the trio join a cattle drive led by the uncompromising Curly (an Oscar-winning Jack Palance), but discover life as a cowboy is every bit as tough as one would expect.
