The first six films in the Mission: Impossible franchise follow IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) as he takes on high-stakes missions around the globe. In Mission: Impossible (1996), Hunt is framed after a botched mission and must uncover the real traitor within the CIA. In M:I-2 (2000), he faces off against a rogue agent threatening to unleash a deadly virus, with the help of the agent’s ex-lover, Nyah.

M:I-3 (2006) sees Hunt battling arms dealer Owen Davian while trying to protect his fiancée, Julia. In Ghost Protocol (2011), the IMF is disavowed after a Kremlin bombing, forcing Hunt and his team to operate off-grid to prevent nuclear war. In Rogue Nation (2015), Hunt goes after the Syndicate, a covert group targeting IMF agents. Finally, in Fallout (2018), a mission gone wrong pits Hunt against a ruthless assassin (Henry Cavill) as he races to prevent global catastrophe—with the CIA questioning his loyalty.
