Ryan Gosling stars as Driver, a Hollywood stunt performer who earns extra money working as a getaway driver for jewellery heists and bank robberies. Having become friendly with his neighbour, Irene (Carey Mulligan), and her son, Benecio (Kaden Leos), the Driver agrees to help Irene's husband (Oscar Isaac) escape from a robbery with the funds to pay off a gangland debt.

Unfortunately, the job goes horribly wrong and Driver ends up on the run with a bag of loot in the boot of his car and a procession of ruthless gangsters - including Nino (Ron Perlman) and Bernie (Albert Brooks) - hot on his tail.
