Wes Craven writes and directs this US sci-fi horror based on the DC Comics character. Research scientist Dr Alec Holland (Ray Wise) is working on a top-secret government project when an accident turns him into a giant green monster. While Anton Arcane (Louis Jourdan) invades the facility and leads his army of paramilitary troops to steal the project's research for himself, Alec rises from the surrounding swamp as Swamp Thing (Dick Durock) to fight back and save his former colleagues.
