In 'Children of the Corn' (1984), the arrival of child prophet Isaac Chroner (John Franklin) in the drought-ridden town of Gatlin, Nebraska spells death for all the adults who live there. Isaac demands that the children of the town murder their parents to appease the evil presence in the corn and restore the rain. Three years later, a young couple arrive in the strangely quiet town by accident, unaware of the death sentence which must be carried out on all adult residents.

The sequel, 'Children of the Corn 2 - The Final Sacrifice' (1992), finds the orphaned youths of Gatlin being taken in by the residents of the neighbouring township, Hemingford. Before long, however, the Gatlin kids receive another directive from He Who Walks Behind the Rows to kill all the adults in an act of sacrifice.

In 'Children of the Corn 3 - Urban Harvest' (1995), the brutal murder of a farmer in a Nebraskan cornfield results in his young sons, Eli (Daniel Cerny) and Joshua (Ron Melendez), being moved to Chicago to live with foster parents. Joshua soon settles in, but Eli, possessed by an evil force, begins to build an army of followers, determined to murder every adult in the city as part of a grim, ritualistic sacrifice.
