Walter Pidgeon and Gilles Payant star in this family adventure directed by Norman Tokar. James Haggin (Pidgeon) has an Irish setter called Big Red and wants to see him become a champion show dog. Young orphan Rene (Payant) is hired to take care of Haggin's dogs and becomes devoted to Big Red.

However, Haggin is threatened by their strong bond and separates them. With Rene determined to do whatever it takes to look after Big Red, will Haggin ever see the error of his ways?
