Emma Mackey stars as the eponymous character in this comedy drama written and directed by James L. Brooks. When Governor Bill (Albert Brooks) accepts a cabinet position with a new administration, 34-year-old Lieutenant Governor Ella McCay is forced to deal with the sudden and unexpected reality of becoming Governor herself.

Though she is supported by her aunt Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis), her remaining family including her husband Ryan (Jack Lowden), father Eddie (Woody Harrelson) and younger brother Casey (Spike Fearn) cause her no end of problems.
