Heath Ledger stars as the eponymous libertine in this drama directed by Lasse Hallström. In 1753 in Venice, Casanova is notorious for his promiscuity and risks being exiled from the city due to his behaviour. To save himself, he gets engaged to the chaste Victoria (Natalie Dormer) but then he meets and falls in love with Francesca (Sienna Miller).

She appears to be the only woman immune to his charms and he risks everything as he attempts to get closer to her. The cast also includes Jeremy Irons, Oliver Platt and Lena Olin.
