Martin Scorsese directs this biographical drama which follows the turbulent life of Jake La Motta, the middleweight boxing champion who rose rapidly to fame but swiftly fell from grace.

While striving for success in the ring, La Motta (Robert De Niro) pursues the teenaged Vickie (Cathy Moriarty) and they eventually marry. However, he becomes increasingly paranoid and controlling and eventually alienates both his wife and his brother and manager Joey (Joe Pesci).

The cast also includes Theresa Saldana, Frank Vincent and Nicholas Colasanto.
