Val Kilmer and Carrie-Anne Moss star in this sc-fi action thriller directed by Anthony Hoffman. In the 21st century, Earth is caught in the grip of an environmental disaster which means the colonisation of other planets is essential for humanity's survival. Over the previous two decades unmanned missions to Mars began terraforming efforts and now, Lieutenant Commander Kate Bowman (Moss) and her crew are sent on an exploratory mission to the planet.

However, the damage resulting from a solar flare causes the expedition's ship to crash land and the survivors are soon caught in a fierce battle for survival.
