Paul Mercurio and Tara Morice star in this romantic comedy co-written and directed by Baz Luhrmann. Scott Hastings (Mercurio) comes from a family of ballroom dancers and has been training since he was six years old to become a champion. However, he possesses a fierce streak of individualism and a desire to dance his own steps that does not endear him to his partner, his family or Barry Fife (Bill Hunter), the head of the Australian Dancing Federation.

When Scott meets Fran (Morice), a beginner who wants to dance with him his way, their partnership leads to chaos at the Pan-Pacific Grand Prix Dancing Championships. The cast also includes Pat Thomson, Barry Otto and Gia Carides.
