It begins with The Fly (1958), where scientist André Delambre (David Hedison) tests his molecular matter transmitter on himself, unaware a fly has slipped into the pod. Return of the Fly (1959) sees his son rebuild the machine and meet the same insectoid fate, while Curse of the Fly (1965) follows the next generation of Delambres deeper into the family's cursed obsession.

Then comes the film that redefined it all: Cronenberg's The Fly (1986), with Jeff Goldblum as Seth Brundle, whose teleportation experiment goes horribly wrong. The Fly II (1989) completes the set as Brundle's son Martin (Eric Stoltz) inherits his father's accelerated insect metabolism and picks up where Seth left off.
